AUTHORITIES SAY FOUR PEOPLE WERE KILLED AND EIGHT OTHERS INJURED IN A
SHOOTING AT A MICHIGAN CHURCH ON SUNDAY MORNING.
[TAKE VO] {VO} POLICE HAVE IDENTIFIED THE SUSPECTED GUNMAN AS 40-YEAR-OLD
THOMAS JACOB SANFORD. AUTHORITIES SAY SANFORD DROVE HIS TRUCK INTO THE
CHURCH, OPENED FIRE ON SEVERAL CONGREGANTS, AND THEN SET THE BUILDING ON
FIRE. THE BLAZE LED TO A PARTIAL COLLAPSE OF THE STRUCTURE. SPECIAL AGENT
JAMES DEIR CONFIRMED THAT SANFORD USED GASOLINE TO ACCELERATE THE FIRE. AT
THIS TIME, SANFORD'S CONNECTION TO THE CHURCH REMAINS UNCLEAR.
INVESTIGATORS ARE WORKING URGENTLY TO DETERMINE HIS MOTIVE.
