Florida A&M couldn’t keep pace with Kennesaw State on Saturday, falling 92–72 in their home opener of the 2025-2026 season.

The Rattlers struggled to get the ball in the hoop at times, shooting just 33 percent from the field and 21 percent from behind the arc.

“We’ve been getting the right shots,” Coach Ward said. “Right now, we just haven't been able to get a collective group of shot making consistently.”

The Rattlers had three players finish in double figures with transfer guard Devere Palmer leading the way with 16 points and 6 rebounds. Tyler Shirley added 14 points, and Baker Antonio also added 10 points off the bench.

Despite the loss, FAMU showed flashes of energy and execution. The Rattlers had even cut the lead down to 10. The Rattlers bench provided a needed spark midway through the second half with 34 points throughout the game.

“We have to find the guys who make the shots when their opportunity arrives,” Coach Ward said.

It wasn’t all bad for the Rattlers though. The Rattlers were attacking the boards all night. The Rattler rebounding attack was led by senior guard Micah Octave with nine rebounds.

Although the Rattlers didn’t get the win, this was a very special game for the Ward family. This was the Rattlers first home game of the season but also a homecoming for FAMU head coach, Charlie Ward. Although Ward played at FSU, he is the son of two notable FAMU alumnus.

“It's always great to be at home.” Ward said. “Here with family and friends coming out to support is heartwarming.”

The Rattlers will be back in action on Nov. 17th in Athens, Georgia to face off against the Georgia Bulldogs.
